This week I visited the Marion County Energy from Waste Facility in Brooks. The facility was constructed in 1987 and is operated by Covanta. All of our garbage is collected at this facility and used to produce up to 13 megawatts of renewable energy.
This week I visited the Parole and Probation Division of the Sheriff’s Office. Lieutenant Karvandi and Sergeant Whitlock gave me an overview of their office, gave me a tour of their transition center, and took me to visit their Student Opportunity for Achieving Results (SOAR) office on Chemeketa Community College’s campus.
Last week was a busy and exciting week on the campaign trail. Tuesday was the deadline for candidates to file to run in the 2018 election. At the deadline a well-known liberal democrat jumped into my race for County Commissioner.
On Valentine's Day, the Marion County Commissioners hosted the State of the County. Each of our three commissioners spoke about their areas of focus in county government. I encourage you to watch the address. It's a great way to understand better what is going on in our county.
Recently, I met with Mike and Craig Evans. They are the founders of Salem Bridge Solutions; a grassroots organization that is doing the vital work of advocating for a third bridge connecting West Salem with downtown Salem.
Last week we had an incredible kick-off event. It was wonderful to talk with old friends and make new ones. Marion County is our home and I’m so grateful for each and every person working with me to make Marion County the heart of Oregon.
