Drones & More

It has been quite a week on the campaign trail. Things continue to ramp up as we approach next week's campaign kick-off event.

Don't Drain Detroit Lake

On Thursday, I went to the Gates Fire Hall to because I am deeply concerned about the upcoming Detroit Dam and Lake Downstream Passage Project. This federal project could see the water level of Detroit Lake lowered to 1,310 feet above sea level. Draining Detroit Lake during the tourism season will have an incalculable negative impact on the economy of small communities in the Santiam Canyon.

Over 300 local residents signed my petition urging the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to find a way to complete this project without draining Detroit Lake. I submitted my concerns to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers along with the signatures. Signatures are still pouring in as I write this email.

Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC)

I was honored to visit the Salem-Keizer CTEC facility. It's an impressive public-private partnership that provides career technical training to Juniors and Seniors in Salem-Keizer high schools. They're doing great things for workforce development in Marion County. One of the students even taught me how to (safely) fly drones.
